💜 Why Lavender Buddy Helps Even If You Don’t Love The Smell

It is not just about what you think of the scent it is about how everything works together with your body when using Lavenderbuddy, the safe dried flowers sealed in the stitched bag deliver this safely, no oil, no sprays, Ingredients in those sold should be read before breathing in all night!

Lets do some basic science info below

True lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) has over 100 components, but two do almost all the work:

Linalool (25–45 %) a small, light molecule that is the main calming agent and also Linalyl acetate (25–47 %) , softer, adding a gentle soothing and anti anxiety effect

Both are fat‑soluble, so they slip easily through cell walls, skin, lung lining, and the brain’s protective barrier.

Timing of the chemistry before opinion in the brain is magical

Smell is unique as it does not go through the brain’s main sorting station (the thalamus) like sight or sound does, so less than 10 milliseconds, the molecules land on receptors high in the nose

Next, 50 to 150  milliseconds, the signals reach the olfactory bulb, then shoot straight to deep brain areas including the amygdala (alarm), the hippocampus (memory), hypothalamus (body system regulation), before the thinking brain has a chance to make any decisions

Lastly we have 30 to 500 milliseconds and this is where only now, does the orbitofrontal cortex decide, “I like this” or “I don’t”, so the chemical work begins well before you have a conscious preference or pull it away from your nose.

You can also absorb these molecules through skin or lungs into the blood, which carries them to the brain independently of smell perception, massage and nebulised/ steam which is why we also use essential oils for colds and flu.

What happens in the brain once that tiny nose smells the Lavender

Gamma Aminobutyric Acid - GABA, is your brains and bodies main natural brake pedal and when the Linalool molecule binds to GABA A receptors, it opens a small channel that can slow or stop nerve cells from firing too fast. Keeping nerve activity balanced without GABA, signals can stay too loud leading to overwhelm, sensory sensitivity and difficulty feeling settled.

N Methyl D Aspartate =-NMDA receptors that carry glutamate which is the main excitatory messenger that wakes you up, keeps you alert, helps you to remember things to react to things around you.

We all know this is High and GABA is low when the furniture is being bounced on and the zoomies kick in before bed don't we?

For some children this is an all day blast and parents say they cant understand why their children never run out of energy, regardless of how much activity they have.

Linalyl acetate can quieten glutamate, when this is too active as it may lead to over stimulation, racing thoughts, overwhelm and the body will feel unable to rest.

Liking the smell is a nice bonus, but it is not required. The molecules interact with your body and nervous system directly, just as a herb or nutrient does, whether you notice the scent much or not and I also thought of that when creating, you can remove the bag and throw something of yours in the pouch instead if that is a preference for your child to keep the connection if not there, with a familiar scent.

This is one part of the sensory feedback Lavenderbuddy delivers, but what makes this Bear so special is that it the other sensory feedback and breath , all gather together these these messages of safety travel much deeper than scent alone ever could.
